5 Must-Pack Items to Stay Well On the Road

When you’re buzzing between cities, it’s easy to put your health on the backburner. To help you stay in tip-top shape while you’re away from home, we’ve put together the top five items you should be sure to pack.

#1 Running Shoes

Exercise stimulates the immune system, releases endorphins (the feel-good hormones), and keeps your mind sharp. It can be hard to stay active, since traveling involves a lot of stationary sitting, but even just walking or doing chair squats can keep your body moving and your immune system active. We always leave some room in our luggage for a pair of lightweight running shoes; a morning walk or jog is one of the best ways to explore a new destination.

#2 Hand Sanitizer

It’s common sense, but sometimes while travelling hand-washing can go by the wayside. Pack a travel-friendly (3 oz. or smaller) bottle of hand sanitizer in your carry-on. In the car, we opt to stock the glove compartment with sanitizing towelettes as bottles of hand sanitizer are apt to leak with constant temperature changes.

#3 Breakfast Bars

If you’re on the road, you don’t have much time to cook, but that’s no excuse for skipping breakfast. Bring along some breakfast bars to make sure you don’t skip the most important meal of the day due to changes in your schedule. You can make your own before leaving home or just stock up on the store-bought variety.

#4 A Sleep Mask

It can be hard enough to get sleep when you’re not traveling, and even more difficult when you’re on the go. However, getting enough sleep at night helps boost the immune system as well as leaves you refreshed and ready for the next day. Packing a sleep mask or even an aromatherapy sachet can make your hotel room feel more like home, resulting in a better night’s sleep.

#5 Flexibility

OK, so it’s not something you can pack, but bringing a flexible attitude along on your next trip will result in less stress and healthier travel. Assume that plans will change and delays will happen, but don’t let it get in the way of enjoying the journey!
