The Grotto’s Enchanting Festival of Lights

Christmas cheer is alive in Portland. Immerse yourself in the holiday’s sights and sounds at The Grotto’s Christmas Festival of Lights. This sensational seasonal celebration is the largest Christmas choral festival in the world. Portland’s best school, church, and civic choirs perform nearly 160 indoor holiday concerts as part of the holiday celebration.

The Grotto is an internationally renowned botanical garden and Catholic shrine. Over 200,000 visitors each year from all faiths and walks of life visit the garden to view its fir trees, rhododendrons, and Our Lady’s Grotto, a cave carved into the a 110-foot cliff’s base, featuring a life-size marble replica of Michelangelo’s Pietà. This 62-acre space is just a few minutes from Downtown Portland, and every year, it transforms into a stunning display of lights and music.

The Festival of Lights is a walk-through event. Visitors stroll through one quarter mile of lights and serene voices. All concert areas are indoors—but make sure to dress for the cold weather. The Grotto’s 600 seat chapel has five concerts each night at 5:15, 6:00, 7:00, 8:00 and 9:00 p.m. The venue’s cathedral-quality acoustics create a stunning atmosphere. Other family-friendly events, including outdoor caroling by The Grotto Carolers, a Christmas-themed puppet show, and Rainbow Farm’s live animal petting zoo complement the concerts.
