We Support Team USA at Rio 2016

With locations across the country, RLHC has many Olympic athletes from our hometowns travelling to Rio de Janeiro for the 2016 Summer Olympics. Here are five athletes to watch this summer in Rio, each from cities that RLHC calls home.

Katie Ledecky

Swimming

Katie Ledecky, from Washington DC, home of Hotel RL DC, may only be 19 years old, but she already holds the world record in 400, 800, and 1500 meter freestyle swimming events. She made her international debut at the 2012 Summer Olympics at only 15 years old. She won gold in the 800 meter freestyle. Now she’s back for 2016 as one of the USA’s best chances to win gold in women’s swimming.

Michael Phelps

Swimming

Michael Phelps hails from Baltimore, where we also have Hotel RL Baltimore. The Baltimore Bullet might be the most famous US Olympian of them all. With 18 Gold medals from his 3 past Olympics, he’s hoping to add even more to his trophy cabinet in his fourth, and likely final, Olympics. See if the most decorated Olympian of all time can break even more records.

Ashton Eaton

Decathlon

Ashton Eaton might be the best athlete in the world. The decathlete holds the world record in both the decathlon and indoor heptathlon events. He’s only the second athlete ever to break 9,000 points in a decathlon, which he’s done twice. Originally from Portland, where we have hotels in Jantzen Beach, and near the airport, he’s looking to break his personal best and make more world records in Rio.

Serena Williams

Tennis

Perhaps the greatest women’s tennis player of all time, Serena Williams has been collecting trophies for her entire career. That includes gold in 2000 in Sydney, 2008 in Beijing, and 2012 in London. She’ll hope to add more gold medals to her long list of accomplishments while in Rio. Originally from California, where we have hotels in Anaheim, Serena will be one of the biggest stars in Rio.

Alex Morgan

Soccer

Alex Morgan plays striker for the US Women’s Soccer Team and The Portland Thorns in the NWSL. With 67 goals in 110 appearances, she’s lead team USA to a gold at the 2012 Olympics and the 2015 Women’s World Cup. Originally from Diamond Bar, California, near Cathedral City and other Red Lion properties, she’ll be an integral part of women’s squad hoping to defend their gold medal in Rio de Janeiro.

We’ll be cheering for these athletes and the rest of Team USA during the Rio Olympics from August 5th to August 21st. You can find athletic talent all across the country, just like how you can find comfortable, convenient stays at RLHC properties wherever you go. Get great comfort at great value with RLHC.
