Disney World Tips and Tricks
Orlando is one of America’s top travel destinations because of attractions like Disney World and Universal Studios. Plus, the tropical weather is hard to beat. Your kids have been begging you to go to Disney World, but you’re debating if it’s the right place for your budget. Well…we’re here to help show you how to save money and time so that your Disney trip is affordable and well planned.
Start by making your reservations well in advance.
For lodging, check out Red Lion Hotel Orlando – Kissimmee Maingate , just named #1 most popular hotel in Orlando by USA Today. There are always packages and specials to consider. You could get deals like 30% off your stay as a Hello Rewards member plus Disney World ticket packages.
Buy your Disney tickets online. If you have a military ID, the park offers significant discounts off admission for a family of up to six people.
If you’re visiting Disney for the first time (or if it’s your hundredth), you’re going to want to set aside time to dine at, at least, one character dinner. Those seats fill up fast, often months ahead of time. We suggest you make reservations to secure a spot for you and your family to enjoy. That goes for most dining in or near the park. Be precautious and book a reservation just in case.
Plan your time accordingly.
Save time and money by packing your lunches to bring to the park – use delivery services like Instacart, Garden Grocer or Amazon. These companies are able to deliver fresh groceries to the hotel. Best part, every room at Red Lion Hotel Orlando is equipped with mini-fridges. Before you order, take time to assess what you can fit in the fridge. If you need to buy food at the park, order items á la carte. Items may seem like they’re all combo packages, but be vocal and specify exactly what you want. This can save you big bucks in the long run.
Download the My Disney Experience app to see ride wait times, the day’s show times, make reservations and buy Fast Passes all in one app. Learn the ins and outs of the parks at the touch of a finger. As a rule of thumb, get to the park early in the morning, go back to the hotel and hang out at the pool during the mid-day rush, then come back to the park in the evening for shorter times and a more relaxing experience. If you have the pleasure of visiting the park in the summer, you’re getting the biggest bang for your buck – summer hours are longer than other seasons.
What rides should you go to first? Here are our suggestions by park:
Magic Kingdom: Space Mountain, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Big Thunder Mountain
Animal Kingdom: Expedition Everest, Kilimanjaro Safari, Avatar Flight of Passage
Epcot: Frozen Ever After, Test Track, Soarin’
Hollywood Studios: Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster, Toy Story Mania!, Tower of Terror

Take a day off in between your park visits to lounge by the pool. Disney World is fun, but walking around all day in the heat can drain your energy. Use the time to relax and restore your body. We guarantee it will be your most comfortable, vacation-like day on your trip. Escape to 16 spectacular landscaped acres featuring three pools, two fitness centers, volleyball and tennis courts and bike rentals at Red Lion Hotel Orlando. Plus, you’ll save money on the days’ worth of Disney admissions.
Try something different.
New to Disney is the beautiful world of Pandora from Disney’s Avatar. Enter a realm filled with bioluminescence, floating mountains and mythical creatures. Take a ride on the Na’vi River Journey or fly on the back of a mountain banshee in the Avatar Flight of Passage 3D experience.
Ask to ride the Lilly Belle train car. Named after Disney’s wife, this train car was one of the first original train cars at Disney World dating back to the early 1900s. Lillian helped design this ornately decorated, newly restored train car. Find a cast member to see if this option is available at the Walt Disney World Railroad in Magic Kingdom.
Want to try other theme parks in the area? Check out the brand-new Volcano Bay at Universal Studios. Experience the thrills and adventures of this amazing water park – but be sure to plan ahead. Attractions, rides and cabanas are reserved well in advance.
